National Food Strategy: how churches can respond

The National Food Strategy published on 15th July makes a series of recommendations for historic reforms of the food system to protect the NHS, improve the health of the nation and save the environment.

We are encouraged by the inclusion of recommendations to help address food insecurity - including extending eligibility for free school meals, funding the Holiday and Food Activities programme for another three years, expanding the Healthy Start scheme, and trialling a “Community Eatwell” Programme, supporting those on low incomes to improve their diets.

Listen to our Food Insecurity Lead Executive Dr Naomi Maynard giving an interview on TWR Christian radio today, with ideas for Christians about how you can respond, including:

- Find and support existing community food projects in your area
- Get involved in your local Holiday Activities and Food programme
- Continue to campaign for sustainable solutions to end food insecurity

You can also listen to a longer version of the interview here.
